7 Steps to Reinvent Your Home in a Year

Nice modern roomBy Aurora McCausland

No matter how much you love your home, eventually there may come a point where you are a little bored of it. Or at the very least, you’re just looking for a little change or improvement in a few areas of your home. There are so many things that you can do when you want to reinvent your home. You could go the more obvious route, and remodel your kitchen. Or you could completely rethink your landscaping, or update all of your interior decor. Here are a few ways that you can reinvent your home in a year.

Pacing it out makes it more affordable

First things first. Budget. In order to reinvent your home, you’ll have to be able to afford it, and the best way to do this, is to reinvent your home slowly. You can’t do it all at once, so by taking it slowly, it will fit into your budget more easily, and won’t be nearly as stressful to accomplish. All the same, you should make sure that you’re taking measures before the remodel starts, and during it as well, to budget effectively and ensure that you have the funds available for such an undertaking.

Painting walls

Repaint

A fresh coat of paint or new wallpaper can go a long ways in making a room feel brand new. As you go through your home and decide what it needs, some rooms may not need anything besides a new paint color. Remove old wallpaper, paint the trim a new color, or paint the doors in each room. It’s a simple and inexpensive way to make a room feel new.

Go one room at a time

Whether you decide to go from least expensive room to most expensive, or just start at one end of the house and work your way to the other side, it is best to work on one room at a time. This helps you pace yourself, as well as prevent your entire home from becoming a hazardous work zone. Keeping the mess contained to one room at a time is more manageable. If you were to do the entire home at once, it would be too easy to get discouraged and then you’d be left with an entire home that was torn apart.

Remember, also, that some rooms are more impactful than others. Updating the kitchen and bathrooms is the fastest way to raise home value. Here are some great ideas for the kitchen.

Add some green

A few well placed plants can go a long way to making your home have a new feel. Take it a step further, and turn an entire wall in your bathroom into a green wall. Use succulents, hanging vines, or any other favorite greenery to make your bathroom make a big statement. Try the wall behind your bathtub! You can also do this on a smaller scale instead, and section off a part of the wall for your living wall, and place a frame around it.

Innovate with smart technology

Building homeA great way to reinvent your home, is to add a few touches of smart technology. Replace your outlets with smart outlets, so you can control everything over wifi on your phone. Add a few smart homes, add USB ports to your outlets, and your home will suddenly feel high tech and will be the envy of all of your guests. Adding a few touches of smart technology isn’t nearly as expensive as most people assume that it is, and makes your home much more functional.

Swap out hardware and switch plates

Small things like the knobs on your cabinets and drawers, dingy light switches, and even the standard light fixtures you have, make a huge difference on how your home looks. Replace some of these things with something that is a bit more sleek and modern looking, and it will make the entire room look better.

Touch up the exterior

Last but not least, is the exterior of your home. A fresh coat of paint, a new door, new windows, updated siding, or a new garage door will be the perfect refresher that your home needs to finish off your remodel. This is a great chance to choose a different style for your home. The first impression of your home is made as soon as someone pulls up, before they even step inside! This first impression is important, so take advantage of this and reinvent the outside of your home a little as well!
